Dr. Tinker assessed treatment outcomes for 108 motor vehicle crash victims that he treated for PTSD.
The cut-off score for PTSD is 22, so most participants fell in the PTSD range.

The bar graphs show the participants initial IES scores and the outcome scores as well as the average number of sessions required for elimination and/or improvement. The mean initial score was 47.

5, 90-minute sessions

The average number of sessions was 5 for a total of 7.5 hours of EMDR for each participant.

The mean ending score was 8 indicating strong treatment gains.

In an excellent treatment study with automobile accident victims, Hickling & Blanchard (2006) got similar results but it took much longer. The amount of time required for their results was approximately 100 hours per participant
