The Diagnostic Tree is a way of showing the relationship between trauma-based diagnoses and DSM-based diagnoses

Most DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual from the American Psychiatric Association) have their roots (or causes) in psychological traumas. The traumas cause neurophysiological changes which lead to the DSM diagnoses. By treating the traumas underlying the neurophysiological changes the symptoms are reduced. It is a genotypic/phenotypic relationship in which a genotype in interaction with the environment gives rise to a phenotype. The genotype changes (from psychological trauma) give rise to the phenotypes (the psychiatric DSM diagnoses).

EMDR focuses

on the underlying psychological traumas.
