DUNBLANE SCOTLAND MASSACRE - 1996

The massacre occurred at Dunblane Primary School near Stirling, Scotland. At around 9:30 AM, 43-year-old Thomas Hamilton arrived at the school carrying four legally owned handguns--two 9mm Browning HP pistols and two .357 Magnum Smith & Wesson revolvers and 743 rounds of ammunition. Before entering the gymnasium, he fired shots into the assembly hall and girls' toilet. Inside the gym, he opened fire on a class of 28 Primary 1 pupils and three adult staff members, killing 16 children and their teacher, Gwen Mayor, and injuring 15 others. Hamilton then committed suicide at the scene. The attack lasted only a few minutes but caused widespread carnage and trauma in the small community of Dunblane.

Sandra Wilson and Bob Tinker were invited to Dunblane, Scotland, where they trained therapists from there and elsewhere in Scotland to work with the traumatized children.

This was a successful project, and many of the school children were helped.

In 1997, a firearms act was passed that made it illegal to privately own handguns in the UK.
