KOSOVO PROJECT - 1999
In 1999, Drs. Tinker and Wilson were asked to help out with ethnic Albanian children who had been traumatized by the war in Kosovo and were living in military barracks in Hemar, Germany with family members who had survived. These children, aged 6 to 13, were not functioning well. We designed a project with assessments 1 month and 1 week before an EMDR group intervention and 1 week post and 3 months post. The following bar graphs document the changes that occurred as a result of the children being treated with EMDR on a group basis with one group being for younger children, age 6 to 10, and a second group, age 11-13.

Ethnic Albanian Children in Hemar, Germany Treated with Group EMDR

SUDS is a measure of the extent of emotional distress on a scale from 0-10 with 10 being the worst. The graphs depict how much their distress was alleviated by a week of group EMDR sessions.

An independent assessor using standardized measures for PTSD scored the children on PTSD measures. These bar graphs document how much PTSD was alleviated with both groups of children.
